Based on the reactions to the stories I’ve posted today, many of you don’t know that in New Zealand we grow truffles too, the season is very short though, best truffles are harvested in June-July. There are about 50 trufferies spread around NZ that cultivate both black and white truffles. This Sunday we went on a truffle hunt on a farm about 3 hrs drive from Auckland. What a great experience this was!!! Colin and Maureen welcomed us on their grounds and were happy to show around. With the help of Jed, their truffle hunting dog, we got some pretty decent size and good quality black truffles. The Binns supply truffles to the fanciest restaurants around NZ, and we today enjoyed a brunch where pretty much everything on the table was cooked with the very generous amount of the freshest truffles here in this very simple setting. Brining some souvenirs in the form of a truffle, truffle butter and truffle salt back home and already thinking of what we are going to have for dinner tomorrow😊 Not adding a location tag to this post on purpose cuz we want to keep this gem to ourselves🤫 and will be booking another hunt next year. P.S. As Colin said, a good sign that you had a proper truffle meal is a truffle burp 12 hours later, so did you?! 😂😂😂
